You can reduce it by changing your check frequency. You can also use
iptables on Haproxy or the node in question to reject connections which will
then be sent elsewhere.

to unknown status nodes.
IE: when we have a node that is down.. it seems to still send traffic to it momentarily, if we restart haproxy. Short of removing the node from the config is there anything we can do to avoid that?
